   æentlovrenka

     The name is derived from St. Laurent - it is on the this saint's feast day, August 10th, that the early ripening grapes of æentlovrenka are traditionally harvested. The vine is a derivative or mutation of Pinot Noir discovered and popularized by Bronner in Alsace. The vine demands very nutritious soils but can be grown even in northern areas since it ripens so early.

     The wine is of a dark, subdued red colour, moderate in alcohol, with a neutral bouquet - although related to Pinot Noir, æentlovrenka is a much more humble wine.

     In Slovenia, æentlovrenka is rather rare, grown sporadically in the Podravje and Posavje regions. It is, however, an essential ingredient of Metliçka ¬rnina, so the best varietal æentlovrenka comes from Bela Krajina in Posavje.

     æentlovrenka should be served at 18 °C (64.4 °F) and goes best with roast lamb or grilled pork.
